Due December 19 Love That Dog Response - The analysis and conclusion.
Writing a conclusion: What makes this book worth reading? Generalize what you discovered by reading book and make a personal connection, a connection to another text or the world. Do Not restate your introduction.
We have worked through the "Nutshell" statement and the 5 sentence summary in class. Today we discussed the "Author purpose" and "Jack's Motivation" section. The author's purpose should be the topic sentence of this section, i.e., Sharon Creech seems to be telling the reader writing poetry isn't difficult if you just give it a try and have a supportive mentor to help.
The Jack's Motivation section should support your rationale for the Author's purpose. If you use poetry writing as a purpose, then reviewing Jack's motivation to write will fit right in. He was motivated to write to please Miss Stretchberry, to meet Mr. Walter Dean Meyers and to work through the death of his dog, Sky.
Remember each reason you use should be supported by several detail sentences "for examples...".
We will work on "conclusions" tomorrow.
Be sure and check website under Reading Sage Tab, 6th grade for sample response plan.
Poetry Log - December 5 --- Read 5 poems from 6 different poets (30 poems in total). List the poet's name, the name of the poem and copy your favorite stanza. Not just the first or smallest stana. Pick one that means something to you :-) as I may ask you why you chose it.

Wee Free Men Response Assignment
Answer the following questions about Wee Free Men. Use our “Here’s the answer, what I mean by that, for example” format. Make sure your answers are complete and concise. Each will have two grades, 25 points for reading content and 25 points for writing style and grammar.
1.) State two important ideas from the story.
2.) In your own words, explain what Tiffany meant when she said, “The secret is not to dream. The secret is to wake up. Waking up is harder. I have woken up and I am real. I know where I come from and I know where I’m going. You cannot fool me anymore. Or touch me. Or anything that is mine.”
I’ll never be like this again, she thought, as she saw the terror in the queen’s face. I’ll never feel as tall as the sky and as old as the hills and as strong as the sea. I’ve been given something for a while, and the price of it is that I have to give it back. (page 244)
3.) What does the book say about change? Support your response with details from the book.
4.) Write a new title for the book. Give two reasons from the book that show why your new title is a good one.
Due Monday, 9/16/2013 - 1. Complete the Literature Web on the except from Tom Sawyer on page 38 in your Persuasion

2. Do the Structural Elements of Fiction section on pages 39, 40, & 41 of the Persuasion

support your answers. Remember not all the Structural Elements will be in this piece of
writing or in any piece for that matter. That being said, this story does have a number of
these elements. Plot, for example, is a series of events that make up the story (pg.3 of

Flashback and Foreshadowing are the only element NOT present in the story as far as I
can tell.
